Material selection for serrated blades

Common materials and characteristics
65Mn spring steel: good elasticity and plasticity, relatively economical material cost, and excellent heat treatment hardenability. However, it has a low heating temperature and is prone to deformation, making it suitable for saw blades with low cutting requirements. For example, some ordinary cutting scenarios with lower requirements for accuracy and wear resistance.

Carbon tool steel: It has a high carbon content and high thermal conductivity, but its hardness and wear resistance will sharply decrease under temperature conditions of 200 ℃ -250 ℃. It also has large heat treatment deformation, poor hardenability, long tempering time, and is prone to cracking. Common materials include T8A, T10A, T12A, etc., which are relatively economical materials in tool manufacturing.

Alloy tool steel: Compared with carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel has better heat resistance and wear resistance, as well as better processing performance. Its heat-resistant deformation temperature ranges from 300 ℃ to 400 ℃, making it suitable for manufacturing high-end alloy circular saw blades.

High speed tool steel: It has good hardenability, strong hardness and rigidity, low heat resistance and deformation, belongs to ultra-high strength steel, stable thermoplasticity, and is suitable for manufacturing high-end ultra-thin saw blades.

Choose factors to consider
hardness
The toothed blade needs to cut chips from the workpiece, and its hardness needs to be greater than the hardness of the workpiece material. The cutting edge hardness of the toothed blade used for metal cutting is generally above 60HRC.

wear resistance
The ability of materials to resist wear and tear. Generally speaking, the higher the hardness of the tooth shaped blade material, the better its wear resistance. The higher the hardness, the more numerous, the smaller the particles, and the more evenly distributed the hard points in the organization, the better the wear resistance. In addition, wear resistance is also related to the chemical composition, strength, microstructure, and temperature of the friction zone of the material.

heat resistance
It is the main indicator for measuring the cutting performance of tooth shaped blade materials, referring to the performance of tooth shaped blade materials in maintaining the specified hardness, wear resistance, strength, and toughness under high temperature conditions. At the same time, the toothed blade material should also have the ability to resist oxidation at high temperatures and good resistance to adhesion and diffusion, that is, it should have good chemical stability.

Strength and toughness
In order for the toothed blade to work under high pressure and frequent impact and vibration conditions during cutting without producing chipping or breakage, the mechanical blade material needs to have sufficient strength and toughness.
